THE RABBIT HANDBOOK

The Information You Need to Raise Happy, Healthy Rabbits

Rabbits make wonderful pets. Each rabbit has a distinct personality, just as dogs and cats do. And rabbits can be trained: they can learn commands, play games, and can even be taught to use a litter box.

This book provides all the facts, advice, and fascinating insights about rabbits you’ll need, including:

How and Where to Purchase Nutrition and Health Care Housing Behavior Breed Information And much more

Here’s a snapshot of just some of the fascinating yet practical information you’ll find in this book

The Rabbit Handbook, pairs, strong bond, male and female, groupsThe Rabbit Handbook, pairs, strong bond, male and female, groups

One or More?

In the wild, rabbits live in groups. Single rabbits, therefore, may feel isolated, bored, and be prone to get into trouble. Pairs of rabbits will often form strong bonds with each other, especially a male and female or two females. This does not apply to a pair of males, who may be aggressive toward each other, especially if they are not neutered.

The Rabbit Handbook, dig, burrows, behavior, carpet box, tunnel boxThe Rabbit Handbook, dig, burrows, behavior, carpet box, tunnel box

Behavior

Because rabbits in the wild dig to form burrows, digging is an important natural behavior for them. In order to save your carpets, you should provide an alternative place for your rabbit to dig. A carpet box or a tunnel box can work quite well and save you some expense in the long run.

The Rabbit Handbook, diet, food, hay, fiber, pellets, chewing, tooth wearThe Rabbit Handbook, diet, food, hay, fiber, pellets, chewing, tooth wear

Diet

Hay is a critical element of your rabbit’s diet, and for mature adult rabbits, should always be available so that your rabbit can eat as much as he wants. The fiber in hay is much more effective at promoting normal intestinal activity than the fiber in pellets. Additionally, chewing hay contributes to normal and healthy tooth wear.

Rabbit-Proofing Your Home

The most important thing to watch out for are electrical cords. Rabbits will chew on them which can cause a shock and/or fire. Therefore, precautions must be taken before a rabbit is ever let loose in a room. You may want to consider pre-slit tubing so that the cord can be protected and your rabbit can remain safe.
